It seems common for the mould stone to be adjacent a doorway in the Merrivale blowing houses; one could posit that this is to asist in the cooling process of to vent noxious fumes. No obvious hearth to could be identified, but presumably this would be central to the structure; free standing and several feet ''in front of'' the back wall; which would''ve situated the bellows.
