When I was in my teens I used to cycle around this area which we called The Pits with my brother which was a huge black landscape of different levels of coal shale. Some of the Pits was turned into a BMX track for Jim Codds BMX team to practice on. I am standing directly above Bonvilles Court Castle which is burried about 20 feet below me. The spoil here was another 20 feet higher here than it is now. In the 1980s the council reduced the area to a flat carpark and a gas transfer station was also built in what was a massive hole when we were kids. I wish I had take photos then to show the huge difference there is in only 20 years. This photo is taken looking North and the trees in the middle of the photo is where the Tower pit head gear and winding house stood.
