The workshops not only serviced the Aad pit but also other collieries in the group. The yard ceased to be a central yard in the 1960s when the central workshops in Ashington were built. As the cost of repairs to the customer collieries was cheaper than Ashington workshops they were reluctant to send there m/cs etc to Ashington and instead continued to use Bedlington. To stop this Mr Best, manager at Ashington workshops cajoled the NCB management to remove particular m/cs from the workshops at Bedlington to stop this practice. The photo was taken on the road crossing at the entry to the Yard near to the beginning of shop row. The rail lines go to the washery in the distance and then on to the Doctor pit.
