Ancient Openwork, Whiteworks

Whiteworks is known today as a largely underground venture: one of the deepest on Dartmoor at 30fms. However, it’s oldest workings appear to be Openworks on the backs of particularly rich lodes. The elevated section of the mind must’ve seen almost all the devastation we can observe today prior to 1790 with the cutting of the Devonport Leat. However, stream works which are buried by the leat appear to in turn overlay the open work features at Whiteworks. Looking at the weathering of this particular open work, one might assume 17th century origins at least.
