Although the Newbottle mines were officially closed in the mid 1950s (Herrington lasted until The Big Strike 1980s, It was actually one of the many mines listed ) The Peggy and Dolly shafts and buildings lasted until the late 1970s early 1980s ? possibly demolished when Houghton Colliery closed . Although they were kept open for ventilation, there is a possibility they were still used for Man riding? Strangely there is some buildings on this map.
