The 3rd Pit has been reconstructed including a new shaft and now called "New Winning" (The Durham Mining museum states the West Pit grid ref NZ296497 is very close to the 3rd Pit However West Pit is on old maps at approx. grid ref NZ290486, (see Lumley 6th pit) However the new shaft could be the 5th pit?) whilst the 1st and 2nd Pits are now redundant with all buildings swept away and its railway lines uplifted, The old shafts possibly left for ventilation Air shafts.
