1897 map

Opened 1894, closed 1968 http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/n011.htm#top a relatively young mine for the North East. An extension from the nearby Coronation Pit https://www.aditnow.co.uk/Mines/Walbottle-Coronation-Pit-Coal-Mine_21382/ . This mine had some splendid mine buildings but sadly everything was swept away after closure. The former site is now a housing estate "Mandarin Close" is the street that shafts were situated, The shafts themselves are now large flowerbeds, though badly neglected on my visit in 2018 its nice to see shaft locations rather than just buried underneath a road or hidden in heavy tree plantation. The map taken only a few years after opening shows 3 shafts? the furthest one could be chimney for ventilation? it will disappear by the next map. note no housing nearby.
