Water Carriers (Silos de Calanas), 1931

This is one of a number of photographs of Rio Tinto Mines, Tharsis Mines and other mining areas of Huelva, Spain, taken by Alan Cawley in 1931. Alan Cawley was a mining studuent at the Royal School of Mines, London between 1928 and 1932. He visited southern Spain in 1931 - presumably as part of his 'work experience'. His photos passed to Lynn Willies at the time of the expeditions in the early 1980s to examine Roman Mining at Rio Tinto, and have now been digitized by Dave Williams, Hon. Recorder, PDMHS.
