View up Vertical Balance shaft from G
Here you can see the heavy timber framework that acted as cage guides - again almost identical to structures seen at Penrhyn. the shaft dated back to about 1854 and was in continuous use until 1923 when the cages were smashed and the headgear etc. twisted after an overfill of one of the tanks.
