View from the tunnel road
A rather fine little mine within walking distance of the Crimea pass near Blaenau Ffestiniog. It was opened by Gethin Jones, contractor for the LNWR and builder of the Pont Gethin viaduct. It is thought that he opened this mine to take advantage of the track built to service the tunnel ventilator in the upper Lledr valley. There is a run-in adit below the track which may be the lower level referred to by AJR in his Slate Gazeteer, also another trial nearer the main road, flooded but only goes in a short way (70' or so) before ending.
There are also several trials on the eastern side of the road, presumably connected to this operation which are either run in or flooded.
