Upsal Pit , Early 1900's

The photo pre-dates the electrification of the site which occured sometime around 1912, the large building on the left is the original stone winding house but by this point it is no longer in use and has been replaced by a smaller winding house which is the hut infront of the chimney. The original wooden headgear is still in use but it has been modified to except the new position of the winding ropes.
