Unearthed shaft
An old shaft which had been capped with a beehive cap (probably at original ground level) then later unearthed (possibly by the formation of the adjacent stream). The shaft was buried or part buried by the old reservoir which occupied the site. The shaft lining is doubled walled and 'end-on' bricks probably show the method of sinking the shaft. The shaft fill is seen through the hole. Photo taken in 2011.
A rare (possibly unique) find now gone. The correct name of the shaft is currently unknown but it's at the site of West Hallam No4 Colliery
