Thomas Chapel Colliery pit head site 2005

This field is all that remains of the actual Thomas Chapel Colliery site. The first pits inthe Thomas Chapel area date back to the 1780s and Thomas Chapel Colliery closed sometime in the 1850s when the New Hayes and Hacket Collieries were reopened.

I have researched several mining accidents at TC 1838-54 but never tramped the field so interesting to see the landscape; any remains at Hackett/New Hayes? (nualways)
