The RSJ Haul

In the late 1980s a huge flake of rock came of the side of the ladder shaft down from the Alma to the Lucy and ended up wedged across a timber platform.
A few years later a joint initiative between Moles, CAT and CUMRU involved securing this for safety by bolting a rolled steel joist across the shaft and suspending the rock on steel wires.
The photo shows the RSJ being hauled all the way over fells to Glencoyndale by a determined little team. Ian Tyler in the background.
