The Original St Brides - later Porthgain slate quarry

A view above from the nearby tramway which connected the Porthgain complex with dolerite quarries. This original slate quarry, now partly infilled, was connected by tunnel to the harbour complex below, where it is possible to see its entrance. Here was a water powered slate dressing mill near the harbour together with an extant line of houses, known as The Street, built for the slate workers. The quality of the slate does not look particularly good!
