Tamar Smelting Works, Weir Quay 1984
The works was purchased in 1854 on the recommendation of Percival Johnson (of the Hatton Garden firm of Johnson Matthey) and used to smelt the silver rich ores of the mines in the vicinity. The works closed around 1865 and were later used as a jam factory with the offices converted into dwellings. Some of the plant remains - furnace arches &c - which can be viewed through the gateway of the private property now on site.
