Site of Shafts 2014

Nothing remains now, though it does look like a light covering of soil.. Just like the nearby Hazard Pit this was still in place up to the late 1970s/early 1980s. There is one old picture of The Shaft Base (looking like an upcast shaft) with The Headgear removed here, http://www.hettonlocalhistory.org.uk/boundarywalk/pointg.html However for a number of years The Local Authority have been trying to build a bypass road directly through the site using the part of the former wagon way.
