Silver chalice and altar dish.
These items seem to be the only known examples of 'Castleside silver' from the Healeyfield mine.
The chalice is engraved
'Whickam 1622' and has reputedly been in the keeping of Whickham church since then. There is no established provenance but members of the congregation say, 'it has always been known as coming from the mines at Castleside.'
My sincere thanks to the Vicar of the church for allowing me to photograph and display the items.
