Shireoaks mine

This photo was given to me around 1965 from the Strutts Estate office who leased the land for mining from around 1810 called the Dalley coal field pits. Shireoaks farm house was used as the headquarters for the mining. The position of this photo is not known. There is a detailed report of the research carried out regarding mining in the area. The coal was of poor quality but still of use, but further east of here in Belper itself then Denby etc to Nottingham was good. there are fourteen miners shown working on this photo.
