Shaft area Looking south
A large number of different and diverse businesses occupy parts of the site, here it appears to be a scrap yard? although nobody questioned me why I was wondering around taking pictures.
The one shaft on old maps was to the right quite close to the road, behind the metal fence, The Engine House was to the left which on old maps appear to have been the original since The mine 1st opened? though possibly enlarged over the years?. I didn't find if it was still steam powered until closure?
A large amount of rubble further down where I originally thought the shaft was.
On another visit after this picture was taken I got talking the owner of the old Power station buildings, He said there was another shaft to the east of the That building? but nothing shows on old maps.
