Sevenstones Halt, LSWR: November 1966

Sevenstones Halt was opened by the PDSWJR/LSWR to serve a Pleasure Gardens opened by a local entrepreneur on the site of a former brickworks associated with the mining and quarrying industries on the shoulders of Kit Hill. The brickworks had been served by a siding on the 3'6" gauge ECMR. In the background of the photograph may be seen the buildings and stack of the Greenhill Arsenic Works, which lay alongside the line in narrow and standard gauge days.

Popular with Sunday School outings from Plymouth, the Pleasure Grounds- and its customers - succumbed to the Great War. Sevenstones Halt lost its raison d'etre and closed in 1917 never to reopen.

This photograph was taken with my Kodak Retinette 1a camera, using self-processed Ilford HP3 bulk film, in the last week of operation of services on the Gunnislake to Callington section of the branch line.
