Pit props in gallery, Ellen Pit
Pit props made of sawn branches/ small trunks (at least one was oak) within a gallery close to Ellen Pit. A waggonway associated with the shaft of Ellen Pit was constructed over several in-filled shafts and galleries, so this gallery possibly pre-dates the pit, which was not shown on the 1850s Ordnance Survey map, but was 'old coal pit' and 'old shafts' on the 1890s revision. The gallery was exposed during modern excavations
