Percival's Mill from Tuxford 1912-14

This mill originally was built for Votty & Bowydd - it was probably their first mill, as it was always known as "Percival's Mill" after the owning family. With the abandonment of old Hafodty by 1870, and the development of workings below its horizon on A, B and C floors, it had no use and so was leased to the Maenofferen Company, along with the wharf around it, and the tramways connecting to it along Cookes Level. By the time of this phot it was derelict, all the machinery and work having been removed to the present Maenofferen mills floor.
It is interesting to see the waterwheel, it's launder bringing water from the adit in the background which itself was fed from the old Hafodty quarry. The far end of the mill was labelled "Hunter Saw" on the original lease plan.
Immediately above the mill can be seen the remains of one of the inclines from old Hafodty to the Rhiwbach tramway.
