Outram gang rail fragment

A broken fragment of an Outram gangrail cast at Butterley Furnace in about 1803 for use on the Croydon Merstham and Godstone Iron Railway. The letters CM&G are visible. Found in Godstone Quarries where some rails ended up and were used second hand until after 1900.
