Oaks Colliery 1850
The 1850 OS map shows Oaks to have had two sites separated by about 200m. The northern site was next to the canal, and the southern site next to the railway. The two sites were connected by a tramway. On the 1892 OS map, the northern site is renamed Rylands Main Colliery. On the 1906 OS map the northern site is again renamed Barnsley Main Colliery, and finally the site operated under the name Barrow Colliery in the 1980s before final closure.
