Monckton c.1982

Monckton Colliery, West Yorkshire; closed in 1966 but remained more or less intact because it's upcast shaft was needed to ventilate the nearby (Royston) drift mine . The Koepe tower stands over this shaft with the fan outlet evasees to the extreme left, a disused headframe minus pulley wheels is to the extreme right, (checkout the earlier B/W photos of the pulley wheel change - it's this headframe). Monckton Coke Works chimney and bunkers can be seen behind. Royston drift mine closed in 1989, the coke works 2014.
