Middle Hill Colliery Shaft 1999.

Luclky for us the Coal Board still have powers here and they organised the solidification of the core of the shaft and the excavation and concreting of the cap as well. The shaft was 90 feet deep. Not a bad depth for a shaft dug in the 1700s. We know it is that old as it didn't come up on any of the mine searches and the pottery, glass, clay pipe and oyster shells dated it to the early 1700s.
