Manor Colliery Wakefield Upcast winder motor/drum
This was the winder motor/drum assembly at Manor Colliery in Wakefield. Small colliery and a small winder; the operator said it was little more than a freight lift! This winder was on the Upcast shaft and barely reached 15ft/sec winding speed. The two winding houses at this colliery were kept spotless and well maintained as you can see. This was taken in the last few weeks of operation. A housing estate now covers the site.
