Looking for Luneheads
In 1976 MSG explored and surveyed luneheads mine in a very brief period when it was opened for commercial prospecting. All visits were clandestine night visits and when the mine was sealed we went prospecting for an alternative entrance. This my friends - was one of them. Only one person has ever been in here and it was myself. At 16 years old I was pretty thin and very gullible. The level is Rennygill Level and is sealed almost underneath the arches of Rennygill Bridge. Once inside, the level is very heavily silted up. Back in 1976 the silt was waist deep and almost like quicksand. There was no end to this and Dunham states the level extended for 2500 feet. I managed about 500 foot before becoming exhausted - the level contunued on, cut in shale and with propped sides. 33 years later I can still vividly remember the (horrific) moment when I first got back to the inside of this 10 foot long pipe and realised it was going to be much harder reversing this squeeze.
