Letch Haulage engine

After leaving the Alexandrina site (Time Team would have a field day in there) we walked a short distance West along the former Sunderland-Durham Line (closed before 1960 pre Beeching) The line although not related to this Colliery was used for transport of goods/Coal, it was originally used by rope of which this is the remains, lots of stone work and possible well or even a shaft with stone slab covering it. Sometimes the Alexandrina Pit was known as the Letch? though old maps show this not to have been a mine?
