Kirkby Colliery1967

In the fore front is the Lowmoor Pit, with the North shaft directly behind, the headstocks over the south shaft being partly hidden by the construction of the new coal prep plant, local legend has it that as it neared completion the NCB put tenders out for its demolition, kirkby closed in1969.
Sinking of the Lowmoor Shaft began in 1913 and was completed in 1915, The Shaft was 529 yards Deep, which was 1 yard below The Deep Hard seam
