Kilgetty Ironworks Platform 2006
After an extensive conservation programme the Platform as it was locally known (due to its resemblance to a staton building) housed a fitters shop and lathe room, smithery with 4 hearths, carpenters shop and pattern room with the managers offices on the second floor. At the far end of the building now in ruins is the boiler house. At the side of the boiler house was a sawmill which was constructed using galvanised corrugated iron. With a detached roofed saw pit, the roof covered with Patent Asphalted Roofing felt. The Platform workshops were used up until the closure of the Kilgetty colliery after the second word war. My great grandfather worked at the Platform for a while in the sawmill.
