One of the two low level drift entrances at either side of the old quarry.
Smithy Dene was a collection of 5 drifts on the edge of Waldridge Fell. Four drifts mined coal and one drift barytes. The last 2 closed in May 1990. It was always a private/licenced mine with never more than 25 men employed
