Hucknall no1 Colliery, 1&2 shafts

Two Shafts were sunk to the Top Hard Seam in 1861/2 and between then and 1943 the Top Hard, Main Bright and High Main seams were worked extensively, connections were made with no2 Colliery in all the seams worked and after 1943, when coal winding ceased at No1 Pit, the remaining workable High Main was wound at No2 Colliery.
No1 Colliery continued to be the administrative centre for both Pits and No1 shaft remained in use for ventilation, manriding and materials until 1960 when all activities were transfered to No2 Colliery.
In 1952 No2 Shaft was deepened to the Deep Soft Seam as a ventilation shaft for Babbington Colliery and became known as Babbington No7 Shaft.
From 1943 onwards the colliery buildings were progressively demolished until only a few buildings around the shafts remained, no1 shaft was sealed and the Headgear demolished in 1968. Apart from use of no2 shaft a plant was built in the 50's for the fire proofing of timber and lagging for underground use in the Notts Area.
