Hartshay Wharf on Cromford Canal

The wharf at the Cromford Canal end of the Pentrich and Oakerthprpe Tramway after it had been converted to standard guage and shortened by the building of the Ambergate to Pye Bridge Railway line in the 1870s. The coal (note the size of the lumps!) is from Haslam's Pentrich Colliery closed in 1944. Photo estimated at c1900
