Gosforth Colliery by Thomas Hair
Great Drawing by the famous artist looking North, The picture shows the Coxlodge Wagonway viaduct over the Ouse Burn stream. The stone bridge is still there taking busy traffic on The current A 191 road.
The Famous Wagonway cut right through the site which probably predated this mine, The Coal trucks look empty in the drawing, possibly on its return from Newcastle?Wallsend Docks.
The Viaduct section appears to disappear from 1916 map, with the wagonway lines marked Disused. The colliery was situated on a high area of ground with quite a valley between the viaduct.
Today little evidence of the possibly wooden structure remains, However the South East side of The Wagonway is now a pleasant walkway that also ran past Benton Colliery
