Foss Barite Mine. 1986

Foss Barite Mine, Aberfeldy, Perthshire. 660 m. level barite drift. Removing blasted barite in a LHD (load-haul-dump unit) bucket carrying 3 1/2 tons of ore. The ore has recently been blasted from the stope, hauled to, and dumped down a drawpoint. The LHD units are highly manoeuverable and powerful rubber-tyred machines and are usually powered by diesel engines with exhaust-conditioning devices.
