Foss Barite Mine. 1986

Foss Barite Mine, Aberfeldy, Perthshire. 630 - 660 m. level raise. Note Fe-stained chert immediately above tunnel roof (top left-hand corner). This particular raise was cut for ventilation and mine development purposes. A fault occurs downthrowing to the left (west) running down right-hand side of photo with banded barite occupying whole of right-hand side. Safety chain indicates that this section of the raise is sub-vertical.
