during re construction

Very rare picture showing the old Headstock below the New one, The picture has captured the changeover taking place and the old items will soon be demolished, This new NCB 1960s era Headstock was one of the 1st Skip winding facilities in The North East, possibly the 1st in the once Great Durham Coal Field, sadly it has been said that it lasted less than 10 years. Nearby Handon Hold Colliery had a similar investment program by the Coal Board, with the same short lived results. copyright of Beamish Archives.
