Dowgang Hush mid/late 1980''s
Unfortunately I have no current idea why John took this photo, something was being dug on the hush. Beyond Eric looking thoughtful I don't recognise the other three, perhaps it will stir some memory in someone.
On reflection this may not be a JFM pic as I think the cropped head may be John!
More reflecting makes me think the seated pair may have been part of the notorious "hippy" colony in Nenthead, in which case I'm fairly sure I know who the woman is and, perhaps, who took the photo.
PeteJ adds "......this looks like the coal drainage level near the head of Dowgang Burn. at NGR 77634281. Someone dug out the flooded entrance which unfortunately caused a rather large ochre pollution incident. The level runs for 35 metres to a blockage - survey date 28.4.1979...."
I'll leave it here just to keep christwigg's ochreous rapture! Copy also attached to Dowgang Burn coal mine.

Fashions may have changed, but i''m sure many of us still find ourselves gazing longingly into ochre filled levels.
