Detail of the Mould Stone, Merrivale Blowing House

Note the over-large size and considerable depth; presumably this is to avoid cracking of the mould due to the repeated heating and cooling they would undergo. Towards the top left corner is a small indentation; this is present on all the Merrivale moulds but is not easily explained. Is this a sampling cast? Or somewhere to rest your ladel?
