Colliery Blacksmiths c1920

Colliery blacksmiths around 1920. Left to right ; Foreman Blacksmith Samuel Oakes (my Great Grandfather), George Martin & Steve Matthews.
Colliery Blacksmiths had nothing to do with shoeing horses - thats farriers! They made and maintained everything they could, used both above & below ground. Possibly unique to the N. Staffs coalfield, they were also responsible for the shafts.
