Cockshaw Alum Quarry

Alum quarry & works operating from 1766 to 1775 on the hillside directly above Ayton Banks ironstone mine.
The quarry face is partially obscured behind the trees. On the quarry floor to the left of centre is an unburnt clamp with earthworks visible either side providing shelter to the clamps during roasting.
