Close up of the two shafts

Like most Collieries terrible disasters were part of mining and this mine was no exception, In 1908 sadly 14 lives were lost in an explosion.
The picture has caught some sort of demolition to the right. (The Explosion is said to have caused considerable damage to the upcast shaft housing) The large Winding house will also have slight extension to the right.
The Wagon way to the left existed many years (probably over 100 years before this mine was sunk) This led to The Washington Pit and F pit.
