Cheesewring Siding and the South Phoenix sett: 2 January 2017
Cheesewring Siding was thus described by the GWR in its Working Timetable and refers to the stretch of line from Minions Depot to Cheesewring Quarry, itself incorporating sections of the 1844 and 1871 L and CR routes. It is nearly 62 chains in length and climbs from Minions Depot at an average gradient of 1 in 58. Immediately to the left of the trackbed is the 60' long Miners' Dry for South Phoenix: to the right and partially hidden by trees is the combined Carpenters' Shop and Count House, and on the extreme right is the Engine House on Houseman's Shaft. The railway here traverses the extensive Dressing Floors of the 1888 workings at South Phoenix.
