CEGB shoring of tunnel bore, 1965

Civil engineering designed by CEGB Bristol and carried out by staff at Mary Tavy Power Station under direction of Fred Jackman, P/s Superintendant. Railway sleepers were used to brace the walls of the bore. Alec Kendall's safety helmet was one found earlier that year at the Excelsior Tunnel.

  • This section of tunnel is very very low when the tunnel is full, making passing in a kayak canoe impossible without getting out.
