CEGB shoring of tunnel bore, 1965
Civil engineering designed by CEGB Bristol and carried out by staff at Mary Tavy Power Station under direction of Fred Jackman, P/s Superintendant. Railway sleepers were used to brace the walls of the bore. Alec Kendall's safety helmet was one found earlier that year at the Excelsior Tunnel.

This section of tunnel is very very low when the tunnel is full, making passing in a kayak canoe impossible without getting out.
