Bridgework Lower Adit, Llanberis Cu Mine, Eastern Workings
Looking westwards along the strike of the lode; prior to descending the final pitch to the modern bottom adit of the mine.
In 1760, a good description of the mine was described by a steward of the Vaynol Estate:
"A new work was opened at this place called the bridge work; this work has been sunk about 8 yards and carried on about 10 y[ar]ds long, the ore is mixed with stone and sulphur about a y[ar]d, and half thick, the sulphur is less at the bottom than at the top, and the stone is softer here than at the Yewtree works but the ore" and later on describes this work as 60yrds above the level of Llyn Peris.
The tunnels at this level of the mine are distinctly smaller and older. As with all the other adits; a drift to the mountain side at this level if collapsed and impassable.
