Bonvilles Court Colliery, Fan Pit 1988

The Fan Pit as I knew it before it was vandalised with a JCB in the interests of safety! I climbed on top of the shaft and walked across the top. The cage was still hanging in the shaft as the wire ropes had snagged in the brickwork at the top when they were cut to take the winding engine away for wartime scrap in the 1940s.
