As if to rub it in.... The colliery had been closed "no demand for coal", strange then that hardly had the pit gone than this opencast opened on the very location of the pit yard! You can see some of the original colliery buildings 'on the edge'. To orientate yourself with the other pictures; the three shafts would have been extreme right, in effect, coming towards you out of the photo. In fact they cut through the shaft linings in that right hand 'face', you could see them 'sectioned'. Sadly my poor attempts at photography couldn't show them up clearly enough. c.2002
