From the bottom of this shaft the Silkstone workers would travel down a drift by rope haulage then another 2 paddy trips for several miles to get to their faces. More recently the Warren House/ Barnsley bed colliers woud travel several miles by diesel tran to their respective workplaces. Both journeys were well over 40 mins.
